About Us

Great Start Foundation was founded by Jennifer Shepherd in August 2017. Jennifer's a graduate of Wayne State University with a B.S in Psychology. She is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Social work at Walden University. She currently serves as the Executive Director and Program Coordinator for the Great Start Maternal Infant Health Program. Along the journey, she faced many challenges and roadblocks along the way. She was 19 yrs. Old when she gave birth to her daughter, and as a young mother, she was also a victim of domestic violence, received government assistance, and faced a period of homelessness with a 2yr old. With the support of the Maternal Infant Health Program, she was provided with support and guidance. She understands the struggles many women and families face daily. She is forever humble, grateful, and the conscience of the person she became. She is driven and determined to help others along their journey.
